God Has Gotten Closer Throughout History

Man drew his first breath and God walked with him in the evening.

“I Am” told Moses to deliver the children of Israel from bondage so he could “dwell among them.”

God himself laid down his divinity and became “God with us.”

God places his spirit inside all who believe unto righteousness.

Ultimately God is making us to be just like Jesus so we can be with him forever.

When we look back over history at the acts of God toward mankind, it is he who has chosen to draw closer to us. He created us in perfection, it was us who drove the wedge of sin and death and ever since then God has drawn himself closer and closer to us to the point of making us his dwelling place. It doesn’t get any closer than that. Many times we feel so far away from God but it’s clear this is not his will, he desires to dwell with you and make your life look like Heaven. Yes this world has plenty of trouble and tribulation but it’s temporary. I choose to look at God’s eternal will to understand where I stand with him, I choose not to try to understand God through the broken filter of a fallen world.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. II Corinthians 4:18 – 5:1

God is not interested in distancing himself from you. In fact, he committed his greatest act of love toward you while you were an enemy in your mind and deeds, while you were a sinner. In your darkest state God expressed his love the greatest. We were the ones who introduced sin and reaped a curse, God is the one who removed it from us through an act of sacrifice.

When you catch yourself feeling like God is disappointed in you or has left you, keep in mind that his actions throughout history say otherwise. The one and only way we can know someone’s heart and intention toward us is their track record over time. God has proven himself worthy of our trust. God has proven his love for you. God has proven his provision for you. God has consistently displayed his will to live near you and even in you. Choose today to accept God’s unconditional love for you. You may already be born again but you need to experience his love for you. God has been pursuing you all of your life, slow down enough to see that he’s with you and will indeed never leave you. God doesn’t break his promises.

This portion of Psalm 139 is a beautiful realization from David of God’s desire toward mankind. I pray you have the same realization of God’s desire to live life with you and not far away from you.

1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. 5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
